I could have started to tell you about my whole life story, but I don't think that should be the focus. Instead, I will highlight how I got into missions and what took me to Brazil.
It all started in September 2019, when I was trying to figure out what to do after I had finished my vocational school because I didn't want to enter the work-life yet. I found out about Youth with a Mission through a guest speaker who visited my church, so one thing led to another, and I applied for the Discipleship Training School (DTS) at the YWAM Lausanne (Switzerland).
The school and my journey as a missionary started on October 1st. After three months of learning more about who God is and who I am in His eyes, I found out about our outreach (practical mission trip) location. Surprise, surprise! Egypt and Brazil were the two locations where we would have our outreach. I was placed in the Brazil team, which was hard at the beginning for me to accept fully. I had some misconceptions about Brazil and its people. Also, I did not want to go to a country where they spoke my mother tongue.
Anyway, God has His ways of flipping our beliefs and changing how we see things. There were lots of ups and downs during the outreach, but one thing I got from this experience was that when we follow God completely, we will never be the same.
Psalm 25:9-10 (ESV)
Afterward, I thought I might want to continue in missions or maybe apply for more schools at YWAM, but I had never imagined I would come back to Brazil so soon. I applied for a one-year program with YWAM Lausanne, where I would do a leadership school, then the Discipleship Bible School, and end it by staffing a DTS.
During this year, I felt God was preparing me for something, but I could not put my finger on it. He taught me so much, especially during bible school.
Then it came the dreadful moment where I had to staff a DTS. It was something out of my comfort zone, and I was not confident enough to make it through. Amid the pandemic, God still was faithful until the end. In the end, I made it, thanks to God's grace and the people around me. Then it came outreach, and surprisingly enough, after some hardships because of Covid, I was put in the team going to Brazil.
After one year, I was able to revisit this beautiful country with its warm and kind people. Our team mainly stayed at the YWAM Fortaleza, where I got to know more about this base's vision and projects.
After going back to Switzerland, I strongly felt that God want me to be in Brazil for a more long-term mission. Thus, it started all the process to be able to come back. Due to Covid, some bureaucratic services got delayed, so it took me one year before I finally set my feet in Brazil. I think the waiting was worth it because it allowed me to decide which base to choose. And, I could save some money as well.
So, this is only a summary of how God brought me to Brazil as a missionary, and I hope to have some more good stories to share with you.
